Water chestnut, known as Singhara in Hindi, is an aquatic fruit that grows in ponds and lakes. Its botanical name is Trapa natans. In India, it is especially consumed during fasting (vrat) periods. Singhara is eaten raw or roasted, and its flour (Singhara atta) is gluten-free and widely used during religious fasts.
This unique fruit grows underwater, has a green color, a small irregular shape, and naturally possesses a cooling nature (sheetal taseer).
Grind Singhara with lemon juice and apply it to affected areas. It may cause burning initially, but the pain subsides after about 10 minutes, offering relief in skin infections.
Weakness caused by thin semen can be improved by consuming cooked Singhara flour with a tablespoon of cow’s milk.
Rich in iodine, Singhara helps relieve various throat problems and strengthens the thyroid gland.
